Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival

NBCLA is once again proud to support the 14th Annual Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, July 31st and Sunday, August 1st from 9AM to 5PM at the Long Beach Marine Stadium.

Steeped in pageantry and tradition, the Long Beach Dragon Boat races are one of Southern California’s fastest growing water sports. The two-day festival, which is one of the largest dragon boat competitions in California, promotes cultural understanding and sportsmanship from across the globe. This year, more than 180 teams from Asia, Canada, Phoenix, Portland, San Francisco, San Diego and Los Angeles will compete for medals and trophies. On-shore, the beachfront will come alive with food, music, Chinese acrobats, traditional dance and art demonstrations, along with hip hop and martial arts performances.

The Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival is part of the City of Long Beach Sea Festival. Founded in 1997, the festival is just one of several marquee events hosted by the International Culture Exchange Association. The goal of the festival is to promote team sports, a positive spirit, cross-culture awareness and community harmonization.

We used to live in Marina Pacifica (key 20) across from the rowing club. What a great spot to watch all the action...maybe we'll go and check it out this weekend.

Come in the backway. Second Street is a total disaster. If I ever find the fool who authorized tearing up the four lane street in the middle of summer I will personally start a recall petition.

Big fat waste of taxpayer dollars in the form of "federal stimulus money". I suppose the local government is trying to spend it before it gets yanked back. They are replacing the medians and don't really need to. Looks like alot of busy work really that probably would be better deployed somehwere else in the city. The whole area has been a total mess, but today they opened up the lanes so it has eased a bit this morning. Your tax dollars at waste.
